Tom Cheatham
SESSION MODERATOR
I was ordained on October 30, 1977 (Reformation Day) and retired on December 31, 2018. In between, I served churches and campus ministries in AL, KY, and MS. I was also on the staff of two presbyteries and have had the privilege of being involved in some way on boards, committees, and commissions at every level of the Presbyterian Church and in some of the communities where I’ve lived. When I took a break from ministry in 1979 after my first call didn’t work out so well, an attorney who also was a Presbyterian elder took a chance on me and hired me as his law clerk. It was in his employ that I met my wife Susan (in federal court!). We’ve been married for 43 years.
One of my favorite sayings, which I first heard from a presbytery executive in AL, is: “No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care.” You have trusted me as part of a team to help you during this transitional time in Trinity’s life. With God’s help, I will seek indeed to show you how much I care, even as perhaps I have opportunities to share a bit of the ecclesiastical knowledge I’ve gained over the course of my ministry.

Bob Hawkins
Choir Director
Like my wife Elizabeth, I learned early that my life would revolve around music, and that my primary service in the church would be in music ministry. For forty-four years I was choir director at Trinity United Methodist Church in Greenville, MS, and not long after moving to Starkville I became the choir director here at Trinity. When I’m not practicing consulting engineering and RVing all over the country with Elizabeth, I play clarinet in the Delta Symphony Orchestra in Greenville, serve as music director for many Delta Center Stage musical productions in Greenville, direct the Greenville Community Harmony Chorus (in which Elizabeth also sings), and sing in the Starkville-MSU Symphony Chorus. I’ve played the clarinet since the fifth grade and was fortunate enough to have playing opportunities practically nonstop through all the years.
Elizabeth Hawkins
church Pianist
I learned long ago that my primary service to the church would be in its music ministry. Until I became the pianist at Trinity in 1985, I sang in church choirs and served as substitute accompanist at several churches. My other musical activities include singing in the Symphony Chorus and playing French horn with the Starkville-MSU Symphony Orchestra and, in the summer, with my RV club band. I began studying piano at the age of five and continued until I graduated from MUW with a Certificate of Music along with a bachelor’s degree in English.
